Carbon Footprint Project

As part of a commitment to monitoring the organisation's environmental impact, the Trust gained CEMARS® certification (Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme) in 2010 and took measures to reduce its carbon footprint.

In 2011 major remedial work began at the Trust's Allendale House offices, including work to make the building more environmentally friendly. The administration was moved to 8 College Hill, in Auckland, and the CEMARS project was put on hold. Staff are expected to move back to Allendale late in 2011, when the scheme will be reinstated.

CEMARS® certification includes the first two steps of carboNZero certification - measure and manage, and have these two steps independently verified then certified.

The carboNZero programme (including CEMARS) is the world’s first internationally accredited GHG certification scheme and the first ISO14065 accredited GHG verifier outside of the USA. This means our achievement epitomises the highest level of credibility as our carbon footprint has been verified against a global standard that is accepted in over 50 major world economies.
