Carbon Footprint Project

As well as monitoring the behaviour of those we invest our funds with, we are monitoring our own impact by measuring our carbon footprint and trying to reduce our environmental impact.

The Trust now has CEMARS® certification (Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme), which is the first two steps of carboNZero certification - measure and manage, and have these two steps independently verified then certified.

We measured and managed (reduced) our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (carbon footprint), and then had these two steps independently verified prior to achieving certification.

The carboNZero programme (including CEMARS) is the world’s first internationally accredited GHG certification scheme and the first ISO14065 accredited GHG verifier outside of the USA. This means our achievement epitomises the highest level of credibility as our carbon footprint has been verified against a global standard that is accepted in over 50 major world economies.

Trustees and staff are working to reduce electricity consumption, recycling food wastes with a bokashi system, using recycled paper whenever possible and talking to our  suppliers about their environmental commitment.

When equipment needs replacing, or during any building upgrade, we will take the opportunity to install more energy efficient alternatives.

We’re happy to share what we learn with others working toward the same goals – and to learn from those who have already taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint.
