We aim to support capital building projects where there is strong community involvement, or where the project has regional significance.
This fund is for requests of $50,000 or more for capital works funding towards building projects. If you plan to apply please read through this information and then contact us if you have any further queries.
If you are requesting less than $50,000 for a building project, please go to the relevant funding sector page for your organisation (eg Recreation & Sport, Arts & Culture, etc). Applications will be assessed in line with our strategy for that sector.
Marae and Heritage: If you are applying for a marae development or heritage building project (regardless of the level of funding), please apply under those sectors.
There is a two stage submission process for the Community Building Projects sector. Please note that generally the Trust will not be the sole funder for a capital building project (the Trust will be one of a few or many funders that contribute towards a capital project) and does not fund retrospectively.
Please contact our Community Building Projects Grants Advisor, Kimberly Rees, on (09) 360 0291, or 0800 272 878 prior to the submission of an Expression of Interest for your capital project and/or for advice early in your project development.

The first stage is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 1 March using the EOI Form provided, along with a one-page project description which should include a concept drawing, if appropriate.
If the EOI is approved, you will be invited to submit more detailed documentation (due 1 September), which is the second stage of the submission process. You will be expected to provide detailed project planning documentation, such as:
Please note that this is a full year submission/application process. If your project is successful as a result of this process, you will be notified of this approval and level of funding in December.
There are two areas which submissions under Community Building Projects sector will be considered by the Trust.
We will consider funding for local community building projects that support strong community involvement, so participation in community activities and social interaction improves.
The Trust will consider funding for capital building projects that are regionally significant and of a public nature that align and support government, industry, and/or the sector’s long term initiatives plans / strategies.
