Environment - Sustainability

We want to help organisations become more sustainable through reducing carbon emission.

We will consider funding environmental organisations that are supporting cross-sector not-for-profit community organisations to reduce their carbon emissions (mitigation at the source) by:

  • reducing electricity usage e.g. engaging energy saving devices such as low energy light bulbs or upgrading to power saving equipment
  • reducing private transportation usage e.g. through incentives for public transport use
  • reducing air travel e.g. through using technology such as video and teleconferencing
  • organic waste reduction

Assessment:

Funding priority will be given to those projects that demonstrate they are:

  • working with disadvantaged communities
  • working to achieve maximum community benefit
  • recording, evaluating and disseminating the findings of the project to the wider community

This policy will run for 12 months, until September 2010. Its relevance and effectiveness will then be reassessed.
