PRESS RELEASE

Students will be making a splash at Peria Primary School, in the Far North’s Doubtless Bay, after their swimming pool upgrade gained a grant from community funder ASB Community Trust.

The $68,388 grant will help upgrade the swimming pool, which the Trust recognises as an important gathering place for the community. The latest grant means the trust has put around $150,000 into the school in the past seven years.

Other Northland schools have also benefited, with an adventure playground and library improvements among projects approved in the latest round of grants.

Waima Primary School gets $13,775 for its library upgrade, bringing the trusts’ total grants to the school to around $100,000 in the past 10 years. Meanwhile part of a $66,177 grant to Whirinaki’s Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Tonga O Hokianga will also be spent on a library upgrade, as well as a new playground.

ASB Trusts CEO Jennifer Gill said the library grants are among many made to schools throughout Auckland and Northland for library upgrades each year.

“It’s the programme of which I am most proud,” she says. “It’s totally low-key, but in the period 2001-2004 ASB Community Trust has spent over $10 million providing library books to schools in our region.”

Kaeo School gets a grant of $38,806 toward its new adventure playground, bringing total Trust's total grants to the school to around $115,000.

In Kaitaia, Te Roopu Whanau Kohanga Reo gets $51,776 to help furnish and equip its new facility.
