There is a huge capacity building resource available to community groups, says researcher and former YWCA Auckland Chief Executive Di Paton – the biggest hurdle is knowing where to find it.
December 2006
That was among the research findings Di presented to ASB Community Trust after she was commissioned to help it understand what is happening in the area of capacity building – both nationally and internationally.
We’ve decided to share the surprising results of her research with others working to improve the not-for-profit sector.
“After nearly 20 years of working in senior management in the non-profit sector, I had formed the impression that there was a serious lack of resources for organisations to assist them toward having sound and stable infrastructure,” Di writes in her report.
“Therefore, in undertaking research for this report, I was most impressed and surprised to discover the huge amount of capacity building activity which is available in New Zealand.
“It is now clear to me that there is huge resource available and that the reason I did not have an overall view of the area is the same as many other people – a lack of promotion."
In a step toward improving the promotion of those resources, Di Paton’s report is now available to download from our website (PDF format, 290kb).
